Port of Paranaguá breaks record of movements in 2020
The Port of Paranaguá, on the coast of Paraná, broke a record of movements in 2020, even with the pandemic of the new coronavirus, according to the Paranaguá and Antonina Ports Administration (Appa).
In 2020, the movement of products reached more than 57 million tons, in all. This figure is 8% higher than that recorded in 2019.
The president of the Paranaguá and Antonina Ports Administration, Luiz Fernando Garcia da Silva, says that the exchange rate issue favored exports, in addition to the harvest.
State-of-the-art technology at the Port of Paranaguá
With the expansion of the operational capacity of the port of Paranaguá, technological improvements can be noticed along with the new system for monitoring environmental and meteorological conditions, such as the Sismo – Hidromares Platform.
The new system allows a real-time demonstration of the speed and direction of the marine currents.
Infrastructure
The superintendent of the Federation of Cooperatives of Paraná, Nelson Costa, points out two infrastructure issues that can hinder state exports: the quality of the highways and the need for more railways.
“Even though we have tolls, we have many state highways that have no concession, with poor maintenance. This impacts on rising costs. Although we have the corridor from Maringá to Paranaguá giving a lot of results, the west corridor still depends on improvements so that the rail transport reaches Cascavel in an adequate way ”, he said.
