Operational draft of Porto Ponta do Félix increases to 9.15 meters

Portos do Paraná increased the maximum operational draft of Porto Ponta do Félix, in Antonina, on the Paraná Coast. A ship’s draft refers to the distance between the depth of the water and the deepest point of the vessel (keel). According to ordinance 192/2024, published by the Port Authority of Paranaguá and Antonina (APPA), the draft at the Port of Antonina increased from 8.3m to 9.15m. “The increase in draft is the result of a joint effort between Portos do Paraná, pilotage and the Navy. After the completion of the dredging activities, with the expansion of environmental monitoring and technical discussions, it was possible to achieve this new draft, which allows for a significant increase in the movement of bulk sugar and enables the terminal to operate in a favorable condition for fertilizer ships, strengthening our commitment to continually increase the efficiency of Paraná ports”, highlighted the Director of Engineering and Maintenance at Portos do Paraná, Victor Kengo. With the increase in the draft, more loaded ships will be able to demand Porto Ponta do Félix, making it more competitive in the market and bringing gains to the entire logistics chain in Paraná.“The entire economy initially becomes more competitive. Both from Antonina and from Paraná and even Brazil. In other words, the impact occurs in the chains. So, as the Port can operate with a greater volume of cargo, all the chains that operate with us in import and export are more competitive”, assesses Gilberto Birkhan, CEO of the PPF. For Birkhan, it represents progress resulting from teamwork. “The result of all this effort represents a substantial increase in the operating capacity of the ships that will perform in Antonina. Both at entry and exit. Import and export of cargo”, he concluded.   Source: Portos do Paraná
