16.8 million tons were exported through Paraná ports between January and May

Exports at ports in Paraná grew 4% this year compared to the same period last year, moving 16,861,765 tons, 715,435 more than in 2023. The commodity that showed the greatest movement in volume was soybeans. In total, 6,381,268 tons were moved this year, compared to 5,743,035 last year, representing growth of 11%. According to data from the federal government, made available by Comex/Stat and Power BI, the ports of Paraná leveraged half of the national growth in soybean exports between the months of January and May this year. Of the 1,183,261 additional tons in Brazil this year, 638,232 tons are from the Port of Paranaguá. “In other words, more than half of the national movement passed through the port of Paraná. It is a very significant volume and shows the efficiency of our operations”, highlighted the director-president of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia. In addition to the growth in soybeans, sugar was highlighted in exports. Between the months of January and May, bulk sugar increased from 1,086,008 tons last year to 2,212,473 tons this year, an increase of 104%. The commodity in bags also grew from 143,913 tons in 2023 to 293,510 tons in 2024, also representing 104% more. “We had a significant increase in the movement of sugar for export and this is due to high demand from India, which experienced a crop failure and is having difficulty maintaining its own domestic demand. We have a large hinterland available in the Port of Paranaguá region, as well as infrastructure to handle this type of cargo and efficient management of the operation”, explained Operations Director, Gabriel Vieira. “The national volume of sugar in the period grew 61% compared to last year and the average ton price in the period jumped from US$464/tonne to US$520/tonne. Sugar is among the only products on the agribusiness export agenda in 2024, with an increase in volume shipped and in foreign exchange revenue simultaneously”, highlighted the administrative advisor of Portos do Paraná, Giovani Ferreira. Containers also showed growth: from 232,566 TEUs last year to 325,382 TEUs this year, with emphasis on frozen meat cargo. Overview General movement, both import and export, grew by 8% in the period compared to last year, from 25,220,449 tons to 27,197,565 tons. In imports, there was a growth of 14% compared to 2023, going from 9,074,119 tons to 10,335,801 tons handled this year.   Source: Portos do Paraná
