The container ship MSC C. Montaine, which docked this Sunday (31) at the Port of Paranaguá, won the title of the largest vessel in terms of capacity ever received in the ports of Paraná. At 366 meters long and 51 meters wide, the ship surpasses its sister vessels MSC Elisa XIII and MSC Natasha XIII, received in January and February this year. The two measure 366 meters long and 48.20 meters wide.
The MSC C Montaine allows a capacity of up to 15,413 TEUs (measure used for 20 feet of container length). This value is 6.7% greater than the cargo capacity of the ships MSC Elisa XIII and MSC Natasha XIII (14,432 TEUs).
“The Port of Paranaguá was the first Brazilian port to receive official authorization to operate a ship of this size and also the first to actually operate New Panamax ships. The quality of the infrastructure, combined with operational security, allows us to regularly receive these new vessels, demonstrating the capacity and reliability of our port”, highlighted the operations director of Portos do Paraná, Gabriel Vieira.
To receive the megaships, Portos do Paraná invests in demolition works and dredging services to increase the depth of the channel. Currently, at the container terminal, the draft, which is the depth between the lowest point of the ship and the waterline, is 12.3 meters in the main and alternative channels.
