Paraná ports record a new double handling record

The month of February closed with two new records in port handling in Paraná. Both in the first two months and in the monthly volume, the percentages of increase exceeded expectations with, respectively, 27% and 39% high, compared to 2021.

“With more than 5 million tonnes handled in the last month of February, and over 9 million tonnes in the two-month period, we ended up with the best handling for both periods in the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina,” said the CEO of Portos do Porto. Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

In the best month of February in the ports of Paraná, 5,076,757 tons of cargo were imported and exported through the terminals. In the bimester, which also enters the history of records, the movement reached 9,234,295 tons.

“Different from what we had been observing in the last months of last year, the segment that pushed the increases was Solid Bulk, both for imports and exports”, comments Garcia.

The segment accounts for almost 64% of the movement in the first two months of this year, with 5,893,104 tons. In February, with 3,469,252 tons, Solid Bulk products added up to 68.34% of the volumes handled, in both directions of international trade.

EXPORTS – Overall – considering the three main segments (General Cargo, Liquid Bulk and Solid Bulk) – 5,040,887 tons of cargo were exported through the ports of Paraná in the first two months of 2022. The volume is 46% greater than the 3,459,699 tons in the same period last year.

In terms of monthly movement, the volume exported totaled 2,832,256 tons, 66% higher than the amount in February 2021, with 1,702,124 tons.

IMPORTS – Increases also occurred in imported volumes. In the two-month period, 4,193,408 tons arrived at the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina – a growth of 46% compared to 3,787,513 tons in 2021.

In the month, imports totaled 2,244,501 tons, an increase of 15.3% over the volume of February last year (1,946,414 tons).

CONTAINERS – Exports also exceed imports among cargo handled in containers. This year, 96,544 TEUs were exported – 7% more than the 90,243 units handled last year. In imports, there were 76,449 TEUs, 6% more than the 72,415 recorded in the first two months of 2021.

In both directions, in February alone, 84,920 TEUs were handled, 8.6% more than the 78,150 TEUs in the same month, in 2021.

ANTONINA – The handling of the terminal operating in the Port of Antonina increased by 157%. In the two-month period this year, there were 313,018 tons of cargo and, last year, 121,995 tons.

The monthly movement increased from 64,310 tons in February 2021 to 149,375 tons in the last month of 2022, an increase of 132.2%.
