The Port of Paranaguá registers an increase in the export of cargo in containers. The discharge was recorded both in volume and in specific 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs). In volume, 436,826 tons were loaded in the last month of January, 24% more than the 352,135 tons exported by the segment in 2021, in the same period.
In TEUs shipped, there were 50,490 tons in the 31 days this year, 7% more than the 47,169 TEUs registered in January last year.
“In January, we followed the historic growth of containerized cargo achieved in 2021, when we passed the level of 1.1 million TEUs handled”, comments the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
At the Port of Paranaguá, operations and the container terminal are managed by TCP. Adding exports and imports, in January 2022 the movement totaled 88,073 TEUs – 4% higher than the 84,508 TEUs registered in the month of the previous year.
In total volume, the increase reached 11%, with 671,649 tons of containerized cargo, compared to 605,047 tons recorded in January last year.
The main cargoes exported in containers by the Paraná terminal in January 2022 were chicken, wood, paper and cellulose. In terms of imports, the products handled in greater volumes were electronics, organic chemicals, plastic and fertilizers.
