The volume of solid bulk shipped through the East export corridor of the Port of Paranaguá was 7.4% higher in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period in 2021. In 2022, from January to April, 5,975,114 tons of soybeans, bran , wheat and corn came out through the complex. In the same months last year, there were 5,561,822 tons.
“The main responsible for the increase were soy bran and corn carried by the three berths that make up the corridor”, explains the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
In percentage terms, the biggest increase occurred in corn shipments, up 35%: 798,152 tonnes this year and 591,538 tonnes in 2021. In terms of volume, shipments of soybean meal weighed. While last year exports totaled 1,288,261 tonnes, in the last four months they were 1,551,553 tonnes – 20.4% more.
For soybeans, this year the volume totaled 3,592,513 tons, just 75,510 tons less than last year (3,668,023 tons). Wheat, a product that is usually imported through the Port of Paranaguá, had a small export balance through the East Complex. In February this year, 32,805 tonnes were shipped – more than double the 14,000 tonnes registered in the same month in 2021.
CORN – Last year, in March and April, there was no shipment of corn through the Export Corridor of the port of Paraná. In March and April of this year, 107,232 and 371,992 tons of grain, respectively, left the three berths. The volume registered in April was almost 247% higher than that registered in the previous month.
COREX – The bulk shipping system in Paraná is unique in Brazil. Cargo can be shipped simultaneously through three berths and it is possible for the same ship to receive goods from different producers, including small ones. Currently, nine private or leased terminals operate in the Corridor: AGTL Cargill, Centro Sul, Cimbessul, Coamo I and II, Cotriguaçu, Interalli, Louis Dreyfus and Rocha. Together, they add up to 1.025 million tons of global capacity.
In addition, five public silos are also interconnected to the complex: one vertical, with a static capacity of 100 thousand tons, and four horizontal ones, with a total capacity of 60 thousand tons. They are operated by Céu Azul, Grano Logística, Gransol, Marcon, Sulmare, Tibagi and Transgolf, which work with several smaller exporters.
SHIPS – In the first four months of this year, 102 ships docked at the complex to load grain – seven more than in 2021, in the same period.
