Exports of grains and bran through the Eastern Export Corridor of the Port of Paranaguá (Corex) increased 102.6% in October. Last year, 765,700 tons of solid vegetable bulk were shipped by the complex in the same month. In 2022, it rose to 1,551,466 tons.
“Despite almost 12 days of stoppage due to rain, the productivity achieved in the other 19 days of operation was high, which made us have this growth”, explains the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
In the accumulated period from January to October, the high registered was 7.4%. Last year, in the ten months, 14,816,811 tons of solid vegetable bulk were shipped. This year, it rose to 15,913,067 tons.
Garcia recalls that in 2021 there was a significant drop in the Brazilian corn crop and says that, this year, in addition to a better result in the crop, exporters had more opportunity in the face of the gap left by Ukraine (at war with Russia) in the international market.
CORN – Both in the month and in the accumulated result for the year, corn was the product that pushed the increase. In October alone, 568,739 tons of cereal were exported, 821% more than the 61,709 tons shipped by Corex, in the same 31 days, in 2021.
This year, 3,714,053 tons of corn were shipped. In 2021, in the period, the volume did not exceed 714,464 tons. The positive variation of the product, in this comparison, was of almost 420%.
Of the 12 terminals connected to the Eastern Export Corridor of the port of Paraná, nine stored and loaded the cereal in the last month of October.
In terms of volume, what most handled corn in the last month was the Rocha terminal, which exported 243,055 tons of the product in 30 days. As explained by Daniel Camargo, commercial and logistics manager at Rocha Terminais Portuários, the factors that drove this total exported were the structure and mix of clients.
“We have four warehouses, two of them with partitions, that is, capable of serving up to two different products, simultaneously, per warehouse”, he says.
In road unloading, according to Camargo, the company also operates with two products simultaneously (soybean and corn), receiving up to 400 trucks/day. In the rail mode, the unloading reaches 250 wagons/day.
“For the next three months, October, November and December, our expectation is to move something around 650 thousand tons of corn”, he says.
OTHER PRODUCTS – Shipments of soy beans through Corex this year already total 8,287,044 tons (in 2021 they were 10,225,327 tons). Soybean meal is 3,823,563 tons (last year, 3,843,032 tons).
Of wheat, 32,895 tonnes (was 33,989 tonnes in 2021). This year, through August, 55,513 tons of corn bran (DDGS) were shipped. The product did not pass through Corex last year.
COREX – Along the Eastern Export Corridor of the Port of Paranaguá, in addition to Rocha, Cotriguaçu, Louis Dreyfus, Coamo (with two terminals), Cargill, Interalli, Centro Sul, AGTL and Cimbessul operate among the private terminals.
In the complex, exporters who do not have their own terminals use public silos: the vertical one (which stores and loads soybeans); and the horizontal ones (soybean meal).
