Port of Paranaguá handled 48 million tons in 2018

The Port of Paranaguá handled 4.4 million tons of cargo in the month of November and already added 48.8 million tons in the accumulated of the year. The number is equivalent to 97% of the amount handled in the whole of last year, when the port of Paraná reached the historical record, with 50.3 million tons transported.

The Government of Paraná expects to exceed the previous mark and close 2018 with a new record of productivity. “Every month, on average, about 4 million tons of products pass through the terminal. We have done a lot of work to overcome our own brands of movement, month by month, “says Lourenço Fregonese, director of Ports Administration of Paranaguá and Antonina.

“All the records we have achieved in recent years are due to improvements in the operational, logistical and planning processes. There were large investments, public and private, that enabled the completion of important works and acquisition of more modern equipment. In addition to the effort of highly skilled workers, “he adds.

HIGHLIGHTS

Solid bulk totaled 32.6 million tons in 2018. In the same period last year was 31 million tons. 4% increase in comparison.

Soybeans continue to be the main product transported by Paranaguá. Between January and November of this year, 14.4 million tons were exported. A 32% increase compared to the same period in 2017, when 10.9 million tons were shipped through the port.

The export of sharps also grew. They were 5.1 million tons in 2018, against 4.3 million last year. High of 19% in the period.

In imports, the biggest growth was in the movement of wheat: 52%. In 2017, there were 142,776 tons. In 2018, there are 216,787.

Paranaguá is the main bulk carrier in Latin America. Since 2011, the Export Corridor has already registered a 45% increase in the volume handled and today more than 80% of the cooperative’s grain production is exported through the port.

GENERAL CARGO

High also in general cargo handling. There were 9.6 million tons of products transported between January and November this year – 10% more than in the same months last year (8.1 million).

LIQUIDS

Exports of liquid bulk, such as oil and other oil products, rose 10 percent between 2017 and 2018, from 1.5 million to 1.7 million tons. The import had a 13% drop. They were 5.5 million tonnes between January and November last year, up from 4.5 million tonnes this year.

RECORDS

Over the last few years, 50 historical records have been registered in the Port of Paranaguá. In all, 17 historical brands were beaten throughout 2017: daily, semiannual and annual operation of soy and vehicles; volumes of solid, liquid and general cargo; flow of trucks in the yard for sorting. In the operation almost all the products moved by the port obtained records of movement, dynamizing and impelling the economy of Paraná.

The volume of movements was well above the Brazilian average. While exports of products in the whole of Brazil had an average growth of 7.2% in relation to 2016, according to data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, exports by the Port of Paranaguá grew 17%.
