ESG and sustainability are the focuses of Portos do Paraná at the 28th Intermodal

The search for a sustainable agenda also includes actions at the event stand itself

Between March 5th and 7th, Portos do Paraná will participate in the biggest event in the logistics sector in Latin America, the 28th edition of Intermodal South America – International Logistics, Cargo Transport and Foreign Trade Fair, in São Paulo. In a 240 m² stand shared with the 26 companies in the port community of Paraná, Portos do Paraná, will have the possibility of carrying out new business and partnerships, and of presenting the main projects carried out with a focus on sustainability and ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) .

The search for a sustainable agenda includes actions at the Portos do Paraná stand during Intermodal. This year, the company reduced the eight printed canvases to one canvas and LED panels. Food on site is served only on crockery: visitors do not use disposable cups, plates or cutlery. The landscaping is created with natural plants, rather than plastic plants; and the paper ticket handed out at the cloakroom was replaced by lockers with a padlock and key.

In 2023, the public company invested R$29.6 million in social, environmental programs and works. In addition to local projects, Portos do Paraná also encourages sustainable actions, as is the case with the so-called “green ships”, which have had priority when docking since February this year. The new measure in the Ship Programming, Operations and Docking regulations benefits vessels with energy matrix structures focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, reinforced the importance of supporting sustainable actions in the sector. “The main focus this year at Intermodal is to share our ESG and sustainability projects, so that they serve as a model for other port companies. Portos do Paraná is at the forefront of the port sector and our goal is to also lead issues related to sustainability and environmental processes in Brazil”, emphasized Garcia.

Currently, Portos do Paraná is the only port to be invited to the annual event held by the United Nations (UN) on climate change, which is the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the only Public Port with Ecoports certification, a reference international in the area of port environmental management. Furthermore, the public company signed a partnership with the Port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, to establish the development of renewable energy in the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina.

PARTNER COMPANIES – In total, 26 companies will be present at the Portos do Paraná stand during the 28th edition of Intermodal. They are: Agrária, Ascensus, Abeph, Bunge, Cargill, Cattalini, Centro Sul, Coamo, Cotriguaçu, Engine, Fertipar, Fortepar, Fospar, Harbor, Interalli, Klabin, LDC, Liquipar, Multitrans, Pasa, Porto Ponta do Félix, Quadra , Rocha, Sulmare, Terin and Tibagi.

INTERMODAL – The International Logistics, Cargo Transport and Foreign Trade Fair has four pavilions for more than 500 participating brands, national and international, and more than 100 speakers. At Intermodal, the 2nd INTERLOG SUMMIT will also take place, which will bring together two simultaneous congresses: the 27th National Logistics Conference (CNL) and the Intermodal South America Congress. The expectation is to receive more than 43 thousand visitors.
