Ports of Paraná reach new historical mark of movement

The Port of Paranaguá reached the dawn of this Tuesday (31) the mark of 53,098,566 tons of products handled. The number, which is expected to increase over the course of the day, already exceeds last year’s record of 53,029,221 tons. In Antonina, the movements totaled 908,377 tons and are 17% higher than in 2018. With this the ports of Paraná had the best year in history, even with the fall in the Brazilian soybean crop in the first quarter of 2019.

Not even the weather, which has a direct impact on grain shipments, has disrupted the good moment of the Paraná port sector. This year, rainfall was 8% higher than the previous year. “It was a challenging year, when efficiency was key to maintaining the high productivity rate. We have clear rules for loading and unloading, excellent infrastructure and a qualified staff. We have earned the trust of the national and international markets, ”said the CEO of the public company, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

Data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, updated until November, show positive foreign exchange revenue. In the port of Paranaguá, exports represented US $ 15.4 billion and imports totaled US $ 11.6 billion.

GRAIN – Soybean led exports, even with a 26% drop compared to the previous year. In 2019, 11,290,203 tons were shipped. The highlight among the bulk was corn, which grew 420%. There were 5,670,500 tons handled. The brans totaled 5,175,627 tons. Thus, the Export Corridor set a productivity record, with 20.23 million tons shipped. In the port of Antonina, the handling of ice increased 18%: 300,072 tons.

Sugar exports, in bulk and bags, totaled 2,619,011 tons in Paranaguá. In Antonina, there were 48,919 tons.

Malt and barley, imported via the port of Paranaguá, totaled 533,878 tons, representing a 54% increase in landings made between 2018 and 2019.

FERTILIZERS – In Paranaguá 9,393,140 tons of fertilizer were received this year. In Antonina, there were 559,386 tons more.

NET – Between January and December 2019, net bulk exports totaled 1,375,699 tons, 23% less than in the same period of 2018. Imports were up 5% to 5,560,742 tons. In all, there were 6,936,441 tons of liquids handled, 2% less than the previous year.

CONTAINERS – Cargo handling per container grew 12%. There were 432,096 units exported and 431,918 imported.

COUNTRIES – The main destinations for products exported through the ports of Paraná were China (11.3 million tons), Iran (3.1 million), Japan (1.9 million), Netherlands (1.7 million) and South Korea. (1.3 million).

In imports, the products came mainly from the United States (3.2 million tons), China (2.2 million), Russia (1.6 million), Canada (1 million) and Morocco (981,404).

The number of ships received in 2019 was 3% higher than in 2018. There were 2,398 berths this year, compared with 2,323 last year.
