For the third consecutive time, Portos do Paraná, a public company owned by the Government of the State of Paraná, was awarded for respecting regulations. The company came first in the Regulatory Compliance category at the ANTAQ 2023 Awards, organized by the National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ) and held this Thursday (23), in Santos. This category assesses care in complying with standards and monitoring risks.
“It has now been three consecutive years that we have been recognized by ANTAQ. And this is only possible thanks to the excellent work of Portos employees, who make Paraná a reference in the global port sector”, said Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná.
In addition to the award received by the public sector, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) came in second place in the Regulatory Compliance category among leased terminals.
The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, highlighted the importance of Paraná’s ports on the national and regional scene. “The ports of Paraná are of great importance for Brazil, for the flow of production, development, generation of jobs and income in the region and we increasingly need to stimulate the development of the entire State of Paraná. We want to work to increasingly seek integration and be able to reduce bureaucracy, creating a better business environment for everyone. Therefore, we are working alongside the private sector to accelerate the authorization of new terminals and new concessions. I am very confident that we can also advance in the Paraná region”, stated Costa Filho.
The National Secretary of Ports and Waterway Transport, Mariana Pescatori, highlighted that Portos do Paraná is a national and avant-garde reference, as it was the first port to handle both bidding and contract management.
“We already have a four-year partnership and it is a super successful partnership, which was even renewed, and this shows how much Portos do Paraná is at the forefront. At the forefront in terms of technology, in terms of compliance with ANTAQ regulations, which is effectively this Compliance award. So, having this partnership with Portos do Paraná is excellent”, said Mariana.
The secretary also highlighted the concession of the access channel as yet another action that reinforces the ports of Paraná as the vanguard of the port sector. “It will be our first access channel concession and we will probably take this model to other ports. So, for the Ministry, Portos do Paraná is certainly a point of reference in the country for new initiatives and partnerships that we want to carry out”, she stated.
ANTAQ Award 2023
In its 6th edition, the ANTAQ 2023 Award’s theme is Best ESG Practices and Innovation and this year it honored technical-scientific productions and initiatives, which disseminate the best environmental, social and governance practices.
According to ANTAQ’s general director, Eduardo Nery, the award recognizes and encourages practices and actions that contribute to improving the provision of services to society.
“Sustainability agendas and ESG policies are priorities within the agency. We work on several fronts to promote sustainable practices in the waterway sector and establish guidelines so that Brazil can be a reference in the discussion, regulation and preparation of studies related to the topic”, stated Nery.
The ANTAQ 2023 Summit was also held on that occasion. Organized in partnership with Grupo Tribuna, the event aimed to promote an open dialogue on the Agency’s regulation with government authorities and entities linked to the waterway sector.
