Port of Paranaguá receives 20 armored vehicles from the Army manufactured in the USA

The Port of Paranaguá moved a different load this Tuesday (8). The Brazilian Army opted for the strategic location and expertise of Paraná’s stowage to receive 20 special armored 6×6 rescue vehicles, manufactured in Detroit, in the United States.

The armored vehicles were transported by the Arc Resolve cargo ship, ro-ro type, used to transport vehicles, rolling or special cargo.

“The Port of Paranaguá has agility in loading and unloading vehicles. In addition, port workers are highly qualified and recognized throughout the country for operating with this type of cargo”, highlights the director-president of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

Before reaching their destination, the armored vehicles left the Port of Savannah, in Georgia, in the USA, and passed through the Port of Manzanillo, in Panama.

According to Colonel Éder Valério Pellegrini, from the Command of the 5th Military Region, the purchase began in 2018 with the purpose of complementing the operational capacity of Guarani Armored Vehicles, used in the transport of personnel, produced in Brazil.

“The new vehicles can be used as a winch support for up to 42 tons of cargo, for rescue maneuvers and the rescue of damaged vehicles in combat”, he explains.

The MaxxPro Recovery Vehicle model armored vehicles are equipped with a rear delta wing and a hydraulic lance with electronic access, in addition to being able to withstand shots from 5.56 and 7.62 millimeter weapons.

Colonel Luiz Henrique Salonski da Silva, from the Logistic Command, in Brasília, explains that the acquisition is part of the strategic program “Forças Armoradas”, of the Brazilian Army.

“The vehicles will be distributed to logistical battalions throughout the country, in addition to military schools”, he says. “The transport of armored vehicles will be coordinated by the Logistics Section of the Command of the 5th Army Division, using the 27th Logistic Battalion and 5th Logistic Battalion, with flatbed trucks, to the Regional Maintenance Park of the 5th Military Region, in Curitiba”.

In the capital of Paraná, the vehicles will actually be received by the Army and a course will be given to operators from all regions of the country.

According to Pellegrini, Paranaguá is a port that has expertise in receiving military vehicles. He explains that more than 100 armored vehicles were landed by cranes or ro-ro ships. “In addition to the proximity to Curitiba, the availability of the Port of Paranaguá in support makes it an old partner for this activity”, he justifies.

In the coming months, according to the military, the port in Paraná should receive containers with vehicle parts and another 30 military vehicles.
