Seven companies that make up the port sector in Paraná, in Paranaguá and Antonina, are included in the ranking of the 500 largest in the southern region of the country, released last week. The survey carried out by Revista Amanhã in partnership with PwC Brasil is considered the most important regional indicator of companies in the country. It was made based on financial information for 2021.
Portos do Paraná ranked 234th in the national ranking (growth of 15 positions compared to 2020) overall and 86th in the state. Copel, Sanepar, Celepar, Cohapar, Fomento Paraná and BRDE (in this case, part of Paraná) also appear in this ranking.
In addition to the sector’s public company, the Container Terminal of Paranaguá (TCP); Rocha Port Terminals; Cattalini Maritime Terminals; Fospar; pass; and Porto Ponta do Felix. Check the complete list here.
The director-president of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, emphasizes the participation of the port community in the state in the transport and logistics sector. “Having companies that operate in the ports of Paraná in this select group demonstrates the relevance of the sector for the region, whether port operators, tenants or the port authority itself, in the case of Portos do Paraná”, he explains.
“These large companies generate jobs and income for the coast of the state. In addition, they pay taxes that will be invested by municipalities in public services, such as health, education and infrastructure, ”he says.
In 2021, 56% of the accumulated Tax on Services (ISS) values in Paranaguá came from port activity. In Antonina, participation reached 59%.
Port activity is essential for the generation of jobs that drive the local economy. There are more than 9,000 direct jobs in Paranaguá and Antonina, in addition to thousands of indirect jobs, such as transport, services, trade, which represents almost 44% of local jobs. Every month, the sector injects more than R$33 million in wages into the region’s economy.
