Cargo robberies resulting from the leaks, in which criminals dump products from trucks to the Port of Paranaguá, decreased 80% in the last quarter. The fall is the result of the joint work of all the security forces operating in the city.
Data presented at a meeting on Monday (3), at the Ports of Paraná headquarters, showed that the number of occurrences dropped from 21 in March – before the start of operations in partnership – to only 4 in May. The theft or theft to the truck drivers decreased from 11 occurrences to 6, in the same period.
“Our expectation is to zero this index this year. The partnership has proved essential and the results reinforce the credibility of the police forces, “said the President of the Ports, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
For captain Cristiano Stocco Rosa, of the 9th BPM, each partner has a special importance. “The work of the city hall, together with the Municipal Guard, was essential. Adapar helped us a lot with the recovered load. The Fire Department acted in the supervision of warehouses and it is necessary to highlight the work of the Port Guard and the private companies, which helped us and were very important in the whole process, “he said.
According to the Civil Police delegate, Nilson Diniz, the investigations continue. “Thanks to the work of all members of this security force, the Civil Police has been able to do the research work and arrest those principally responsible.”
The role of the Ports of Paraná is to act in the support and organization of actions. “We are a connecting link, a connection, between all the security organs,” explains Major César Kamakawa, head of the Administrative Security Unit (UASP).
RESULT – The joint action also showed positive effects in other types of crimes, throughout the municipality. According to the Military Police, the fall in the records of occurrence in Paranaguá was 31% in 2019.
The number of robberies and robberies in the first five months of 2019 fell by 18% compared to the same period in 2018. Homicides fell by 50%.
Next steps – The work of the security forces will continue throughout the year. “You can not do security with just one institution. The ideal is to do what we are doing: working together to provide effective security for the entire population of Paranaguá, “says the municipal secretary of Security, João Carlos Silva.
Bernardo Desert, chief of operations of the Federal Highway Police, confirmed the continuity of the partnership. “The reduction in the first months of operation was expressive and we realized that this drop in occurrences tended to stabilize. We will continue to work together and collaborate with other forces to curb other types of crimes, “he says.
